Immediate response to cardiac arrest with hands-only CPR or an AED, if available, can be the difference between life and death, tripling the chances of survival. Considering the national average of EMS arrival is 6 to 13 minutes, bystanders are a critical bridge to increasing a SCA victim’s chance of survival.
CPR alone can triple an SCA victim’s chance of survival, and using an AED within the first minute of collapse can increase survival as high as 90%!
Chain of Survival
1. Recognize a Sudden Cardiac Arrest event.
2. Call 9-1-1 immediately!
3. Start CPR pushing hard and fast on the center of the chest.
4. Use the nearest AED (defibrillator) to restore the heart to its normal rhythm.
Andrew’s Assist partners with first responders and other organizations to provide training for bystanders in hands-only CPR and AED usage so that they have the knowledge and confidence necessary to respond in situations of a sudden cardiac arrest.
