According to the American Heart Association, 7 in 10 cardiac arrests happen at home, while the rest occur in public places.
Immediate response to cardiac arrest with hands-only CPR and an AED can be the difference between life and death. You can triple a victim's chance of survival by calling 911, starting CPR or using an AED.
Every minute a victim goes without defibrillation, their chance for survival decreases by 10%. Having easy access to an AED allows people on the scene to deliver potentially life-saving defibrillation therapy quickly and effectively.
Good Samaritan laws have been passed in all fifty states that protect you from civil liability lawsuits if you are on the scene taking immediate action to help save a life.
This legislation extends to the use of AEDs for anyone who is not paid to perform rescue skills as part of their job.
Paramedics, EMT's, medical professionals and emergency room personnel may have different protection during a rescue of an SCA victim.
